Caption This!

One of the most enjoyable parts of my job as CMA Creative Services Manager is keeper of the archives of printed materials and photos of all CMA events. Sometimes when looking through the files for a particular photo, I find myself spending more time just looking at other photos from the CMA Awards and Fan Fair/CMA Music Festival. Having been around for 52 years, CMA has been through every fashion and hairdo era, and being Country Music, our artists have really had a style of their own.

This year, we undertook the high task of scanning in 38 program books from past Fan Fairs and CMA Music Festivals so our wonderful fans can see where we started…and more importantly how far we’ve come. The first Fan Fair program book was 36 pages in 1972, where last year we had a whopping 106 pages. If you have some time to kill and want to take a trip back in time, go take a look at a few here.

If you take a moment to flip through some of these program books, I think you will get quite a chuckle from some of the advertisements, the photos recapping previous Fan Fairs (a virtual cornucopia of feathered bangs, mullets and hot pants!), and my personal favorite, the sketches of Country artists. Enjoy!

Now, dear readers, here is a little You Write the Caption Contest for this awesome photo I found in the archives from the 1986 Fan Fair Games. Leave ‘em in the comments! Keep it clean, people! This is a family place.
