Baseball, All-Stars & Country Music

citifield

CitiField, home of the New York Mets & the 2013 MLB All-Star Game

It’s that time of year again. Time for the Mid-Summer Classic. Time for baseball’s greatest players to come together to showcase the best of the best in Major League Baseball.

At this year’s All-Star game, Tuesday Night 7/16 on FOX live from CitiField in NYC , I thought I’d take a look at the music of the game.  Specifically, Country Music being used and played throughout baseball.  Who knows, maybe after this you’ll have a new favorite player or new favorite song. :)

Almost every team in the league has players that use a Country song as their “walk-up” song. What the heck is a “walk-up” song? This is the music you hear being played as the player is walking up to home plate for their turn at bat.  The players pick their own songs.

For those scoring at home:

  • Most “Country” Major League Baseball Teams (Teams with the most Country songs being used): Indians, Red Sox, Nationals, Diamondbacks, band Giants. Each with 5 songs being used.
  • Least “Country” Teams: Cubs, Padres, Brewers, Pirates: Zero songs being used.  Boooooooooooo.
  • Honorable Mention: Royals (They only have 1 player using a Country song but they use about 7 different Country songs during the game for other purposes. (i.e. When an opposing player strikes out they’ll play “Swing” by Trace Adkins.)
  • Most popular song: “My Kinda Party” by Jason Aldean used 5 times.
  • Most popular artists: Jason Aldean (11x) and Brantley Gilbert (9x). See bottom of post for details.

If we’ve missed any let us know in the comments!

Source: MLB AtTheBallpark app lists the music that gets used in each stadium. While we recognize this isn’t a complete list and probably changes often, we thought it was a fun way to look at how Country Music gets used in Major League Baseball on a nightly basis.
