Twas The Night of Country Christmas

Twas the night of CMA Christmas, when all through the lands
Country fans were abuzz to watch their favorite bands.
Their TVs were set, they had to see it all
From artists, to muppets, and trees oh-so-tall.

xmas11_pickler_3356

They nestled on their couches, ready to sing along,
“Jingle Bells,” “White Christmas,” every last song.
With Jennifer at the helm for the second year in a row,
15 artists are here to put on a (GREAT) show.

When 9 o’clock came with Christmas carols abound,
Kids knew to be quiet and not make a sound.
Away to the couches they flew awfully fast,
Cuddled up with their blankets to watch our Christmas show cast.

Miss Piggy the Muppet takes the stage with Vince Gill,
To sing of the weather, the snow, and the chill.
But Amy Grant is here too! To sing with her boo!
They promise to give a great performance for you.

xmas11_nettles_7186_21835

The talent on stage is truly incredible,
Miss Piggy’s still complaining about Brad Paisley calling her edible.
Sugarland, sugarplums, fireside chats,
Not one but two songs by the famous Rascal Flatts.

And then from the crowd we hear an applause,
As Brad and Brian boogie woogie like Santa Claus.
Then Keith serenades us, the best from down under,
Lauren and Kellie from Idol, they fill us with wonder.

Now Scotty!, now Darius!, now, Little Big Town!
On Faith!, On Martina, oh such a beautiful gown!
To the front of the stage! To the front of it all!
Now sing away! Sing away! Sing away ya’ll!

We hope you enjoy watching our show,
Its a pleasure to have you, just so you know.
Enjoy the holidays, we hope they are swell,
We here at CMA Christmas wish you all well!!!

CMA Awards: Voting Process & Category Criteria

THE VOTING PROCESS

Any mention of the CMA Awards elicits the question of how winners are selected. The answer does much to explain why the CMA Awards is the most-highly regarded and coveted award in the Country Music industry.

CMA Awards winners are chosen in three rounds of voting. Votes are cast by industry professional members of the Country Music Association – meaning Awards winners are honored by their peers in the music industry.

Awards criteria, rules of election and balloting procedures are established by CMA’s Board of Directors. Singles, albums, music videos and qualified music products for the musical event must have been first released during the eligibility period.

Three rounds of voting:

Ballot 1: Each CMA member may nominate one act in each category on the first ballot. The top 20 qualified vote recipients in each category become official nominees on the second ballot. In the Entertainer of the Year category the top 15 qualified nominees will advance to the second ballot.

Ballot 2: On the second ballot, CMA members must vote for up to five nominees in each category. The results are tabulated. The top five vote-getters in each category are the final nominees and appear on the third/final ballot.

Ballot 3: On the final ballot, members vote for one nominee in each category to determine the winners.

The entire balloting process is conducted and certified by the international accounting firm Deloitte & Touche LLP

CMA AWARDS CRITERIA

Have you ever wondered, “What does it take for my favorite artist to be nominated for Entertainer of the Year?” See below for a quick explanation of each category and what it takes to be nominated for Country Music’s Highest Honors.

AristoMedia Global Showcase Offers a Country Travelogue

By Randy Rudder

The AristoMedia Global Showcase always boasts a variety of talent and flavor, and this year’s event was no exception. From acoustic solo acts to duets to full bands that featured rock ‘n roll, Country and even zydeco/Cajun influences, the Global Showcase held at the Second Fiddle on Tuesday, June 7 had it all.

The two-and-a-half-hour event opened with Canadian artists High Valley. Listeners were treated to a high-energy set by brothers Bryan, Brad, and Curtis Rempel, who grew up in the tiny town of La Crete, so far north it’s basically parallel with Juno, Alaska. They kicked off with the rocking’ “I Will Stand by You,” followed by several other tunes from their self-titled CD, including the touching ballad “Call Me Old Fashioned.” The trio closed with their nod to life on the Canadian plains, “On the Combine,” written by Brad Rempel and Paul Brandt.

Next up was the more acoustic-oriented Australian band, Springfield, working through a five-song set of originals including their recent single, “The River Ran Wild,” as well as “That’s Life” and the ballad, “She’s Gone.” Their best piece paid tribute to the small-town values of their home down under: “Any Town.”

New Zealand-based, Michael and Ashley, named the 2010 Country Duo of the Year at the National Country Music Awards in New Zealand, performed next.  They showcased tight harmonies throughout their set. Michael and Ashley have opened up for a number of U.S. acts, including Lady Antebellum.

Six West, a Canadian act featuring vocalists Abbey Powell and Jason Hastie, kicked off their six-song set with their strong vocal harmonies and some nice fiddle and lead work with the up-tempo “You Got Me Thinking.” Six West is a repeat performer at the Global Showcase.

Steve and Heather, the only French band in the showcase, were the most distinctive act of the night, right down to their female drummer. With their Zydeco and Cajun-influenced style, Steve and Heather performed their songs, including originals “Backstreet,” “I Say So Long” and “Country Barbecue,” with upbeat enthusiasm.

Brett Kissel, a 21-year-old Canadian artist, would have won the Entertainer of the Day Award, had there been one given out, though he performed entirely solo. Kissel had listeners eating out of his hand as he worked through originals that included “She Knows What She Likes,” “Long Hot Summer,” “I Love a Girl in a Cowboy Hat” and a clever tribute to finding forever love, “My Last First Kiss.”

Ryan Laird, a Keith Urban-style Canadian artist, worked the room with a strong set of originals, including “I’m Your Man,” “Summer’s Love” and a little ditty about the perils of falling too fast, “Two Weeks In.”

Closing out the showcase was Australian rocker Craig Morrison, whose Sammy Hagar looks, high tenor vocals, and lightning guitar licks rocked The Second Fiddle. Morrison’s band couldn’t have been any tighter as they performed “Hot Kind of Love,” a Top 30 hit in Australia, and other cuts from his upcoming CD release later this summer.

The 2011 AristoMedia Global Music Showcase was hosted by Australian artists, The McClymonts, and co-sponsored by the CMA.
