What’s In a CMA Award?

CMM2012_KeyArtOctober is Country Music Month! All month long, we will celebrate our favorite genre in anticipation of “Country Music’s Biggest Night,™” which is just a few short weeks away.

Every fall during the CMA Awards, music fans far and wide tune in to see their favorite artists recognized for their talent and hard work. While the big ‘to-do’ of “Country Music’s Biggest Night™” doesn’t necessarily match the genre’s typical “kick back and take it easy” attitude, there’s definitely a reason why the men shine their boots and the ladies get dolled up for the hottest Country Music celebration of the year. We all love it, but what makes it so amazing? And how do they win those CMA Awards, anyway?  Get the scoop here so that you’ll be in the loop on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for “The 47th Annual CMA Awards,” airing LIVE at 8|7c on ABC.

The Country Music Association membership is made up of artists, musicians, songwriters, and other professionals working to support Country Music. When established in 1958, it was the first trade organization formed to promote an individual genre of music. The first CMA Awards Banquet and Show was held in 1967 at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. The next year, a taping of the CMA Awards was broadcast on national television. By its third year, the Awards show aired live across the country. The rest is history, making it the longest running, annual music awards program on network television. Over the years, the CMA Awards has taken place on famous stages such as the Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium, Bridgestone Arena, and even a year in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

The ceremony highlights the success of the genre as a whole, recognizing emerging artists and legendary figures alike. In addition to the red carpet, Awards presentations and acceptance speeches, the evening is packed full of unforgettable performances and moments that bring the Country Music community together.

Six Degrees of Entertainer

Reigning Entertainer of the Year, Blake Shelton, has been the winning coach on reality TV-hit “The Voice” for three seasons in a row. There is only one month’s age difference between Blake and co-nominee, Luke Bryan.  Luke was a Sigma Chi at Georgia Southern University, which he attended to be close to his family in Leesburg, Ga. Leesburg is only about an hour and a half away from Macon, Ga., where fellow nominee, Jason Aldean grew up. Jason learned guitar at a young age, chord by chord, during summer days with his father. Taylor Swift, picked up the same skill from a computer repairman who taught her the three chords that led to her first song, “Lucky You.” She did this just 12 years after she was born in 1989, the same year that “King of Country” George Strait picked up his first Entertainer of the Year title. This year, George became the most-nominated Country Music artist in CMA history, with a grand total of 82 nominations.

Who will walk away from “The 47th Annual CMA Awards” as Entertainer of the Year for 2013? Watch the results LIVE from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 8|7c on ABC!
